Every Girl is a national YWCA program for girls in year 6 and 7. Every Girl provides girls with the opportunity to develop their own leadership identity in order to achieve societal transformation in a way that is relevant to their lives, whether this is with their family at home, their peers at school or within the broader community.
The program aims to create a respectful, age appropriate and culturally safe environment where they can explore and articulate their individual strengths and values. The program aims to help bolster girls’ self-esteem, their sense of belonging and resilience and understand their rights, their strengths and their ability to influence community change.
This 8 week strengths-based program is delivered by trained, screened, professional YWCA staff and assists participants to:
- Develop their individual leadership identity;
- Build on and identify their strengths;
- Better understand and feel more connected to their community;
- Enhance their understanding of human rights and effectively communicate their views on a community issue; and
- Develop and collectively plan and implement a community project that aims to influence community change
Every Girl is delivered over eight weekly 90 minute workshops which use a variety of engagement strategies to accommodate a range of individual learning styles.
